Biographies
Tony Almeida
Manager, Custodial Services
Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD)
Elk Grove, California
Tony has more than 32 years of experience in the custodial trades. He spent six years in the private sector and the last 28 years as part of EGUSD, where he currently serves as Manager for the Custodial Services Department. Tony oversees 75 buildings with more than 6 million square feet and just over 300 staff members.
Tony is a steering committee member for Healthy Green Schools and Colleges and a member of ISSA (formerly, the International Sanitary Supply Association). He has served as the professional council chair for CASBO (California Association of School Business Officials) section board for Maintenance & Operations. His department won the Green Cleaning award for Schools and Universities Silver award in 2017.
Tony’s department was also recognized as the silver standard of excellence award winner from Healthy Facilities Institute (HFI) in 2017.
Tony also served on the field advisory for HFI.
Eddie Giron
Facility Manager,
Clark County School District
Eddie Giron is the Facility Manager for the Clark County School District (CCSD), the fifth largest school district in the United States. He has over 31 years of combined experience in facility management including custodial operations and training; facility maintenance operations and management; and construction and project management. He oversees 68 CCSD schools and facilities including custodial, grounds, maintenance operations, and staff management.
During his tenure with CCSD as the Operations Training Manager, Eddie developed and managed training for custodial operations for over 400 schools and other facilities. The training included: 1) cleaning and safety standards; 2) time studies and schedules; 3) custodial staff budgeting standards; 4) leadership conference for head custodians and custodial supervisors; 5) facility plant inspections; 6) compliance plan for state and federal mandates, OSHA guidelines and safety practices, and polices and regulations.
In addition, he created and implemented the Indoor Air Quality Symposium, worked in partnership with National Energy Foundation to develop Energy Conservation Standards and Handbook for school facilities, and provided training for UNLV (University of Nevada Las Vegas) Custodial Services Management in the cleaning methods and concepts. Eddie also developed and implemented the first ever CCSD Custodial and Grounds Staff Development Day.
Mike Perkins
Custodial Operations Supervisor, Poway Unified School District (PUSD), San Diego, California
Mike leads and manages PUSD staff consisting of 150 custodians, 11 site supervisors and one crew supervisor to maintain 41 schools plus district offices totaling more than four million square feet and serving 35,000 students in the third largest school district in San Diego County.
Mike has been involved in the cleaning industry for more than 25 years, having run CleanRight Building Maintenance, a Building Service Contracting firm in
Tucson Arizona for 17 years.
Since 2005, he has trained and taught 2,000+ workers from more than 250 government and Tribal agencies throughout the United States, focusing on Native American Tribes.
His formal education includes a Bachelors of Science degree in Environmental Science with a Focus on Industrial Hygiene from the University of Arizona. His career focus is on
ergonomics and chemical understanding.
Mike is a member of the S400 Commercial Built Environment Cleaning Standard Consensus Body for the IICRC, and a past-participant in cleaning associations including
the ISSA, BSCAI, IWCA, and PRSM.
Gene Woodard
Gene Woodard retired from the University of Washington where he served as Director of the Building Services Department (BSD), which oversees Custodial Services and UW Recycling. The UW was one of the first higher education institutions to use Integrated Cleaning and Measurement (ICM) to validate cleaning procedures within its facility. BSD was recognized by American School and University magazine and the Healthy Schools Campaign for the Grand Green Cleaning Award in 2007 and 2014, as well as the Co-Grand award in 2010. Gene is a Master Registered Executive Housekeeper (MREH) and a former member of the International Executive Housekeepers Association (IEHA). Gene served as President of the IEHA from 2000-2002. He has participated in various committees with the International Sanitary Supply Association (ISSA), and APPA: Leadership in Educational Facilities. He currently serves on the Healthy Green Schools & Colleges Steering Committee in an ex-officio capacity. He is a speaker and writer on custodial and leadership topics. Gene served on the Advisory Board for Facility Cleaning Decisions magazine and was also a contributing writer for Executive Housekeeping Today and currently for Facility Cleaning Decisions magazine. He received the University of Washington David B. Thorud Leadership Award in 2020 and a University of Washington Husky Green award in 2017. He also received the William D. Joyner Achievement Award from IEHA in 2012. Gene recently retired on November 1,2021 and looks forward to staying active in the cleaning industry.
