Indoor Health Council believes it’s time for a “hands on” approach to a program that proctors handwashing and drives both a health and business discussion via three elements:

1. Technique (how to wash)
2. Timing (when to wash)
3. Incentives ($)

Technique

Video proctoring can ensure the right technique through a demo video and help from handwashing proctors to teach and confirm the right steps using our Power Learning Program.

Timing

Examples: before and after eating, using the restroom, touching shared surfaces or objects, and coughing or sneezing.

Incentives

A cash incentives program with monthly milestones during a one-year program will help forge proper habits.

Results

Clean Hands Certified (CHC) workers will contribute to better health, less absenteeism, and a better bottom line for business.

Pricing

Customized for each situation.

Reducing the Cost of Illness: The cost of illness due to lack of handwashing in businesses can be measured by the direct and indirect costs related to infectious disease, as well as loss of income and productivity due to sickness and disability. According to the CDC, the annual economic burden of diarrheal diseases and respiratory infections in the United States was estimated at $142 billion and $40 billion, respectively in 2013. Of these costs, about $35 billion and $9 billion, respectively, were attributed to the lack of handwashing with soap.

The cost of illness and absenteeism due to lack of handwashing in businesses is substantial and can have negative effects on the economic and health outcomes of workers, customers, and society. So, it is important to promote and practice good hand hygiene habits in the workplace, such as washing hands with soap and water before and after eating, using the restroom, touching shared surfaces or objects, and coughing or sneezing. This can help reduce transmission of infectious diseases and improve the productivity and well-being of businesses and society.
