Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), and What It Means
One of our goals at Indoor Health Council (IHC) is to create Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) in which we engage everyone as both learners and teachers, with a strong emphasis on learning by doing.
While learning will be a group effort, it is important to define best practices and related standards, as the book, Learning by Doing: A Handbook for Professional Learning Communities at Work, states:
“We have come to recognize that clarifying essential standards demands developing an agreed-on understanding of what proficient work looks like. Too often we have seen teams leave the issue of proficiency unaddressed. We provide examples of the kind of clarity regarding proficiency that is a prerequisite to a guaranteed and viable” learning process.
