A Picture is Worth 1,000 Words
By Kristy Kelm
I wanted to take a moment to impress upon you the importance of image and presentation.
It’s been said that while you cannot tell a book by its cover, you can sell a book by its cover. That said, in my 30+ years as a graphic designer, I’ve learned that image counts, and that truly “A Picture is Worth 1,000 Words” — or more!
People who clean buildings are professionals, and should dress accordingly. They should “dress for success”— that is, wear quality uniforms to help others “get the picture”!
One study found that, “While wearing a uniform, an individual is no longer just themselves, but also has an identity as part of a group and is representative of that group” — and it can convey the “social, intellectual and professional standing of the wearer.” (Apparel and Its Impact on Self-Perception, 2011)
Another study found uniforms “act as powerful symbols representing the profession’s identity and image.” (Nursing Times, 2010)
Are cleaning workers wearing uniforms that convey their skills in areas such as green or health-oriented cleaning?
Please consider the message your service uniform is sending, especially any patches or logos on it.
How powerful it would be to have uniforms that show your support for Indoor Health!
Thanks for considering this important message.
